The “2/3 galeria” is a space dedicated to contemporary art with an emphasis on photography, located in Bucharest, Romania. The building that houses the art exhibitions was built in 1895 by the architect Wilhelm Bast. After undergoing many transformations, the gallery’s founder decided to preserve its historic character by keeping the 19th century exposed brick arches and the natural marble added in the 1970s. The new art gallery was inaugurated on June 10th, 2021 and it is characterized by a timeless feeling, combining the historical charm of the Bucharest’s Old Town with the novelty of contemporary art.
The art gallery aims to feature new artists with a distinctive perspective on the world. The name of the gallery was inspired by the 35mm frame format seen on compact cameras, another tribute to the importance of history in contemporary art. The new gallery has already hosted two impactful exhibitions: “I’m not there” by Californian visual artist John Divola and “de acolo de unde încă se poate vedea curbura pământului” (“from where you can still see the curvature of the earth”) by Romanian artist Victoria Păunescu. The space organizes open system exhibitions, offering all art enthusiasts the opportunity to interact with the displays.
To showcase the exhibits in a good light, Audiovision, PROLIGHTS’ distributor in Romania, developed a custom lighting system based on the size of the space and the requirements of the gallery.
“We opted for a system consisting of 22 PROLIGHTS EclDisplay LED spotlights, with a 25W, 4,000K source,” said Vasile Mara, General Manager at Audiovision. Vasile added: “Lighting has a direct effect on how we perceive a piece of art, so we worked closely with founder Claudia Retegan to come up with the best option for 2/3 galeria. We decided to go with 4,000K for an authentic representation of the colours and light values captured in the photos.”
For exhibitions that require a diffused light instead, the spotlights are also equipped with zoom profile and wash optics lenses. “Adjusting the light intensity is very easy, either through the light control protocol or through the manual dimmer. The 2/3 galeria can now welcome any artist who wants to exhibit their photos in a favourable light!” said Vasile.
