Ayrton Ghibli™ lights up Amadeus in Seoul

Tongsuh Technology Co., Ltd, Ayrton’s exclusive distributor for Korea, recently sold 12 Ayrton Ghibli™ LED spot luminaires to Art Won+ Stage Lighting Co., Ltd for its production of Peter Schaffer’s Amadeus, which ran for two months at the Gwanglim Church BBCH Art Hall in Seoul.

The production’s beautiful lighting design was created by You Sub Won, Principal Lighting Designer & CEO of Art Won+ Stage Lighting, who was extremely impressed with the Ghibli luminaires. “I first saw Ghibli when Tongsuh brought it to me for a demo and I instantly fell in love with it. We know the trend in the market has been towards LED moving spots and we particularly liked Ghibli’s excellent dimming quality – the dimming curves were as smooth as those you get with tungsten. It is a very silent fixture with an attractive design, qualities that are both very desirable in the ‘open plan’ environment of the theatre.”

For Amadeus, the units were positioned around the theatre’s apron stage, around the front, sides and balcony, and used as a proscenium set arch for front lighting. Mr. Won added, “The framing feature of the Ghibli was very useful in this situation to cover those angles created by the apron stage, and we particularly liked the fast gobo replacement feature, which was very easy and convenient to do.”

Ghibli is Ayrton’s first LED spot fixture and the latest addition to its Automated Lighting range. It is the smallest and lightest fixture in its class and gives the best performance to size and weight ratio of any hard-edged LED – or metal halide – fixture available. Ghibli uses less than 900W of power, yet has an extremely high 23,000 lumen due to its 80% optical efficiency, making it powerful enough for large-scale arenas.

Not only does Ghibli boast ultra-efficient optics, it has an 8:1 zoom ratio that delivers a massive 7° to 56° beam spread, an unparalleled feature set including full field framing shutters, and a selectable high CRI mode. Ghibli projects a crisp, clean uniform beam, with no hotspot and fantastic centre-to-edge uniformity that ensures full gobo resolution and fat beams across its whole field, meaning Ghibli is as much at home in the theatre as on the touring circuit.

Mr. Won commented, “Our company produces a lot of musicals, classical dance, theatrical plays and concerts. We plan to use Ghibli for all the theatrical plays and musicals, but we will try it out on other genres too. Its framing and zoom speed were very impressive and useful. We hope to purchase more in the future.”
